Hamilton Says He Has Sold All His Supercar Collection, Now Focuses on Art
In mid-September, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton said he has sold his extensive supercar collection and is now more passionate about art collecting.
Hamilton confirmed to some media that he no longer owns any high-performance cars, including Ferraris and the rare Pagani Zonda 760 LH, which was reportedly valued at £13 million. In fact, he had already sold the Pagani Zonda 760 LH at a high price in 2021.
The seven-time world champion said: "I don't have any cars anymore. I got rid of all of them. Now I'm more into art collecting." However, he admitted that if he were to buy a car again, it would be the legendary Ferrari F40.
It is still unclear what kind of art Hamilton is keen on collecting. He frequently posts car photos on social media but rarely shows his art collection. However, he previously said: "I'm discovering more and more artists, especially outstanding Black artists."
Earlier this season, he collaborated with illustrator Hajime Sorayama and artist Takashi Murakami to design limited-edition merchandise.
Selling his car collection also signals a further step toward a sustainable lifestyle. He has been a vegan for years and has been outspoken about environmental issues—about five years ago, he posted on Instagram that he was working to offset the carbon footprint of his F1 career, including by adjusting his diet, reducing travel, and increasing his use of electric vehicles.
In 2019, Hamilton said he had already disposed of part of his collection and switched to hybrid or electric models. He also sold his private jet. In 2020, he said in an interview: "I don't drive any of my own cars anymore, only the (electric Mercedes) EQC."
