Asia's Largest Red Clay Tennis Base Lands in Jingshan, Hubei!
According to a report by CCTV's "Focus Interview" on August 7, Jingshan, Hubei, known as the "Hometown of Tennis in China", is accelerating the construction of Phase II of the Tennis Training Base. Once completed, it will become Asia's largest red clay tennis training base, including:37 tennis courts, a 16,800-square-meter player residence apartment, two comprehensive service centers, as well as auxiliary buildings and supporting facilities.
The total construction area of the project is 47,200 square meters, with an estimated total investment of 260 million yuan. The contractor, Hubei Shunxing Construction Co., Ltd., stated that the 37 courts are expected to be delivered before August 30, and the commercial center and athlete apartments before December 30.

Jingshan, located incentral Hubei Province, is a county-level city under the administration of Jingmen City. After the opening of the Yangtze River High-Speed Railway at the end of 2025,it takes less than 1 hour from Wuhan to Jingshan.
Although Jingshan's population is less than 600,000, it currently boasts 356 high-standard tennis courts, equivalent to 5.67 courts per 10,000 people, ranking first among counties and cities nationwide.
Jingshan is also the only "China Tennis Characteristic City" certified by the Chinese Tennis Association, with a friendly tennis ecosystem: court fees are as low as 20-50 yuan/hour/court, and some are even free. Players can reserve multiple venues across the city through the "Jingshan Tennis" WeChat official account. From any point in the urban area, you can find a tennis court within a 15-minute walk.

Since the completion of its first tennis court in 1983, Jingshan has accumulated decades of experience and carved out a distinctive "Tennis+" development path. In 2025, Jingshan's tennis comprehensive output value exceeded 3.5 billion yuan, attracting 3.52 million visits from people "traveling to Jingshan with rackets in hand." Jingshan hosted 48 international and domestic events, including WTA125 and ATP100, becoming the first county-level city in China to host international professional tennis events.
In the first half of this year, Jingshan held 18 key events, notably the first time the National Sports Single Recruitment Tennis Special Exam was held in a county-level city, directly driving local consumption of about 40 million yuan. In the second half of the year, it will host 31 international and domestic top-tier events, including the ATP100 and WTA125 Jingshan Open.

The high density and multi-level events, along with a friendly tennis ecosystem, have boosted Jingshan's reputation among tennis enthusiasts nationwide, even giving rise to a unique "tennis migratory birds" phenomenon. Many northern players "migrate" to Jingshan in autumn and winter, playing tennis during the day and soaking in hot springs at night, some staying for weeks at a time.
The development of tennis has also spawned a new profession in Jingshan: tennis manager.They are involved in the operation and management of tennis clubs, homestays, dining, and equipment services, and this profession has become a calling card for the city. Currently, Jingshan's tennis and related industries directly employ about 3,000 people, with indirect employment of about 10,000 people.
At the same time, Jingshan's tennis industry is extending toward the high end of the value chain. In 2025, the Jingshan Tennis Digital Intelligence and Zero-Carbon Industrial Park began construction, with cooperation and strategic agreements signed with companies such as Li-Ning, KELME, Huati Group, and Alibaba Orange Lion Sports. Luo Nian, Deputy Director of the Jingshan Culture and Tourism Bureau, said: "The first phase of the industrial park will feature intelligent tennis production lines and racket production lines, promoting the continuous improvement of the industrial chain including equipment manufacturing, event operations, and wellness tourism."
Gao Bao, a member of the Party Group of the Jingshan Municipal Government Office and Executive Principal of Hubei Tennis School, stated that Jingshan's next five-year goal is to build a ten-billion-yuan tennis industry cluster, covering sports events, education and training, equipment manufacturing, leisure vacations, tourism, and hot spring wellness.
