Wall Street Financier Steve Cohen Launches WTGL New York Women's Golf Team

June 26, 2026

In June 2026, TMRW Sports announced that just before the inaugural WTGL League kicks off in the fall, the New York team was officially established, with founding team owner being Wall Street financier and renowned sports investor Steve Cohen.

The WTGL League is launched by TMRW Sports in partnership with the LPGA, building on the momentum of TGL. TGL made its debut in 2025 and now reaches fans in over 150 countries and regions. The TGL league was co-founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and former NBC Sports president Mike McCarley, and is held in collaboration with the PGA. Currently, the TGL champion prize is $9 million (split equally among four teammates, $2.25 million each).

The upcoming WTGL, set to debut this fall, will continue TGL's fast-paced team match play format, held at the dedicated venue SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

WTGL currently has 14 signed players, featuring many well-known golfers such as Jeeno Thitikul, Lydia Ko, Charley Hull, Lottie Woad, Rose Zhang, Michelle Wie West, and others. As the inaugural season approaches, more players are expected to join. It is not yet known which players will compete for the WTGL New York team.

In addition to the New York team, WTGL has announced three other teams: Los Angeles (owned by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian), Atlanta (owned by Home Depot founder Arthur M. Blank), and Detroit (owned by a group of entrepreneurs and investment institutions).

The New York WTGL team will be owned and managed by Cohen and Cohen Private Ventures (CPV), which handles the family office for Cohen and his family. CPV previously owned the TGL New York men's golf club and is a shareholder in PGA TOUR Enterprises, with other sports investments including the MLB New York Mets.

In a press release, Steve Cohen said: "We are thrilled to be one of the founding teams of WTGL at a time when women's golf is gaining increasing attention.

TGL has been a true success. It is fast-paced, technologically advanced, and highly competitive, connecting more fans with the sport. We believe WTGL can achieve the same for women's golf, bringing the sport to a broader audience and expanding its reach. We are proud to build a world-class women's team representing the highest standards of New York."

CPV Chief Investment Officer Andrew B. Cohen said: "WTGL represents an attractive opportunity at the intersection of sports, media, and technology. We have seen firsthand how TGL's innovative format resonates with fans and partners. We believe in the continued growth of women's sports and are proud to support a platform that showcases the talent of top LPGA players while building a lasting team in the New York market."
