2025 Ryder Cup Expected to Generate Over $200 Million in Economic Benefits

Beijing time, September 28, the 2025 Ryder Cup continued its second day at the Black Course of Bethpage State Park in New York, USA. The European team led 8.5 to 3.5 after the Saturday morning foursomes, and continued to extend their lead in the afternoon fourballs, now pulling ahead to 11.5 to 4.5, leading the US team by 7 points.

This is the first time in 30 years that New York State has hosted the Ryder Cup. According to Forbes, the 2025 Ryder Cup is expected to bring over $200 million in economic benefits to New York State, attracting more than 50,000 fans to the event. This will be the largest Ryder Cup since 1927 and the largest golf championship ever held at Bethpage Black.

The direct revenue from the Ryder Cup for New York State includes ticket sales, corporate hospitality, concessions, and merchandise sales, while visitors bring additional income to local accommodation, transportation, dining, entertainment, and other activities. During the week of the Ryder Cup, more than 250,000 people are expected to flood into Farmingdale, the Long Island town where Bethpage Black is located.

In addition, media coverage has also played a role. More than 1,000 journalists are expected to attend, bringing international exposure to the host location and potentially boosting tourism significantly after the tournament week.

Although golf enthusiasts have long known about Bethpage Black, which has consistently ranked among the most difficult and prestigious courses in the United States, hosting the Ryder Cup will undoubtedly further elevate its profile. Besides the Black Course, Bethpage Park also features Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow courses of varying difficulty.

The Black Course is also the first municipal public golf facility to host the Ryder Cup. To prepare for the Ryder Cup, authorities spent over 60 months in preparation, beginning construction of facilities at the Black Course in May this year, including: 3.5 million square feet of temporary structures, 1.6 million square feet of outdoor platforms, 74,000 square feet of retail space, 350 tents, 20 helipads, 950 portable toilets, a 5,000-seat stadium at the first hole, and over 20 miles of ropes and fencing to manage the crowd.

The last time the United States hosted the Ryder Cup was in 2021 at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin. Despite international travel restrictions due to the pandemic, the event still brought approximately $135 million in economic benefits to the state.
