WTA Finals 2027-2029 Host City and Headquarters Locked in Charlotte, USA

September 17, 2026

A few months ago, Orange Bay Sports reported that "Charlotte, USA is bidding to host the 2027 WTA Finals." Now, the news is official: Charlotte will become the long-term host of the WTA Finals from 2027 to 2029, and the WTA headquarters will also relocate from St. Petersburg, Florida to Charlotte.

The press release stated that for most of the past two decades, the WTA Finals have moved around the world. Starting in 2027, the WTA will have the opportunity to build on this global foundation with a long-term home and greater ambition: to make Finals week one of the defining moments on the global women's sports calendar.

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and is known as the "financial center of the Southeast" in the United States, with a strong sports culture. The 2027-2029 WTA Finals will be held at Spectrum Center, the home arena of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets.

WTA Chairman Valerie Camillo said at the press conference: "We want to create the Super Bowl of women's sports—not just the competition itself, but an annual event that brings together women's tennis, women's sports, and the business of women's sports. The partnership with the Charlotte Sports Foundation and other local organizations, plus the three-year preparation period, gives us an excellent opportunity to elevate the Finals year by year, making it increasingly valuable for players, fans, partners, and the entire sport."

Charlotte's selection came after a highly competitive global bidding process. The city has excellent sports infrastructure, a business community, and hospitality capabilities. The Charlotte Sports Foundation served as the WTA's primary local partner throughout the process, working with state and local leaders and the region's business community to advance this long-term partnership. During the bidding process, the foundation stated that they "have always been interested in bringing tennis events to the region, including working with the WTA and other organizations to explore future opportunities."

According to Camillo, the WTA plans to compress the Finals from eight days to five days to coordinate venue dates with the Charlotte Hornets. Other format adjustments have not yet been announced.
